Flora and Fauna

Instead of favoring mammalian evolution, the environment of Volucris favored reptilian and avian animals. The volucer are the largest mammals currently living on the planet.

Aside from the volucre themselves, some other notable animals include dinosaurs, synapsids, monotreme mammals (platypus and echidnas), marsupials, armadillos, sloths, anteaters, bats, and rodents. In addition, there are a great number of bird species outside of the predatory volucre, and a wide variety of lizards, snakes, and amphibians.

The flora of Volucris, however, is not terribly unique. The plant species vary per what climate they’re in, but Volucris hosts jungles, towering forests, prairies, and deserts. All these ecosystems, however, are quite old, especially the forests to the East, which haven’t been cut yet for lumber and resources. Agriculture has become a large part of life for the people of Volucris, having mostly moved from a nomadic hunting lifestyle, and they grow crops like coffee, chocolate, and sugarcane, all of which were once viewed as luxury items but are now available to the average consumer to buy.

Notable Animals

Hunting Raptors | Archaeocre familaris

In addition to domesticating the volucre, the humans of Volucris domesticated a smaller, terrestrial predator closely related to the birds. These creatures, Archaeocre familaris, commonly known as hunting raptors or hound raptors, serve as companions for humans and hunting partners for volucre, if trained alongside them. They can range from 1 to 4 feet tall and have feathers covering their entire body. The coloration and texture of these feathers has been selectively bred along with behavior to better tailor these creatures to what their owners intend to do with them.
