Map and Locations
Volucris is a mid-sized gaseous planet with a magnetic core. The majority of the planet’s mass is gas with a magnetic crust layer on top that sustains life. Instead of vast oceans, Volucris has seas of churning clouds. The crust itself is around ten miles thick at its thinnest point. While it can be easy to tumble off at some parts, in areas of high traffic there are rails and other safety features to prevent unwanted falls. The sea of gas surrounding the planet is breathable, but straying too far from land is dangerous, as not much is known about the expanse beyond. There has yet to be a successful crossing from Lammergeier to Keptua across the ocean of gas.
Notably, Volucris does not have many water features, with the largest being the landlocked Baywing Lake. Most of the water on this world is found in the air, making the climate very humid overall. Rains fall frequently, and even in "dry" seasons, the native flora and fauna have evolved a variety of ways to conserve and extract water from the air itself. Interestingly enough, the people have not yet mastered this concept biologically.
The Continent of Aquilla
ENVIRONMENT: Aquilla is the largest continent on the planet and is home to a variety of settlements and environments, from topical forests to towering mountains. Aquilla is home to technological advancement, its people relying more on the power of science rather than magic. Unlike Keptua, all of the settlements have electricity to an extent, and the larger cities have robust transport systems. Nearly every settlement is linked by a train, which can travel the entirety of Aquilla in around a month. Many of the smaller villages serve only as stops for the railway workers and patrons to refuel, eat, and rest in a bed that doesn't wobble.
LARGE CITIES:
Baywing: Baywing is the largest city on Volucris, serving as not only the capital for Aquilla but also the planet itself. With towering skyscrapers, busy streets, and concentrated factories, this area of Volucris has the largest population. It contains several robust transport systems, from carriages to early buses. The nearby lake offers retreat opportunities for the wealthy. Baywing leads the world in technological and scientific advancement, and almost every material product comes from this city, while most agricultural goods must be shipped in. The environment is extremely mild, with summers slightly hotter than the winters are cold.
Alula: A large tropical paradise, Alula is a centerpoint for much of Volucris’ agriculture, producing fruits, coffee, and chocolate. There is also has a robust tourism business in this part of the world, in addition to hosting a variety of competitions for volucre and their riders in the dangerous edge of the world.

The Continent of Keptua
ENVIRONMENT: Eastern Ketupa is a lush, temperate rainforest. This area is home to many large species of wildlife, but due to unpredictable winds coming from the east, there are no settlements here. Western Ketupa receives less rain, becoming a rolling prairie. Southern Ketupa is a cold taiga, with few species of vegetation and little need for settlement. Ketupa has no railway lines, and all travel is done by air.
LARGE CITIES:
Tyto: Tyto is the main settlement of Ketupa. The people here do not have much modern technology by choice, preferring to rely on magic. They are the inventors of airships, and the Nightwing volucre variant originated here. Tyto is known for having both mild winters and summers, and there are mostly grasses and small trees in this area.
Haliaeatus: One of the last links to the northernmost areas of Volucris, Haliaetus is a large city despite the weather. Summers are non-existant, and winters can be harsh. It is mainly a trading city, providing a link to the Stellar’s Retreat.
OTHER SETTLEMENTS:
Fluting: Fluting is a simple trade town with little to offer. It has the same environment as Tyto, and contains several agricultural establishments.
Bubo: Bubo is the closest settlement to the taiga, and serves as a scientific base for the area. All expeditions south leave from Bubo. While some trade is conducted here, it is mostly a town that people visit for scientific business. This is one of the only places on Ketupa that has reliable electricity.
