Volucris is a mid-sized gaseous planet with a magnetic core. The majority of the planet’s mass is gas with a magnetic crust layer on top that sustains life. Instead of vast oceans, Volucris has seas of churning clouds. The crust itself is around ten miles thick at its thinnest point. While it can be easy to tumble off at some parts, in areas of high traffic there are rails and other safety features to prevent unwanted falls. The sea of gas surrounding the planet is breathable, but straying too far from land is dangerous, as not much is known about the expanse beyond. There has yet to be a successful crossing from Lammergeier to Keptua across the ocean of gas.

Notably, Volucris does not have many water features, with the largest being the landlocked Baywing Lake. Most of the water on this world is found in the air, making the climate very humid overall. Rains fall frequently, and even in "dry" seasons, the native flora and fauna have evolved a variety of ways to conserve and extract water from the air itself. Interestingly enough, the people have not yet mastered this concept biologically.

The Continent of Aquilla

ENVIRONMENT: Aquilla is the largest continent on the planet and is home to a variety of settlements and environments, from topical forests to towering mountains. Aquilla is home to technological advancement, its people relying more on the power of science rather than magic. Unlike Keptua, all of the settlements have electricity to an extent, and the larger cities have robust transport systems. Nearly every settlement is linked by a train, which can travel the entirety of Aquilla in around a month. Many of the smaller villages serve only as stops for the railway workers and patrons to refuel, eat, and rest in a bed that doesn't wobble.

The Continent of Keptua

ENVIRONMENT: Eastern Ketupa is a lush, temperate rainforest. This area is home to many large species of wildlife, but due to unpredictable winds coming from the east, there are no settlements here. Western Ketupa receives less rain, becoming a rolling prairie. Southern Ketupa is a cold taiga, with few species of vegetation and little need for settlement. Ketupa has no railway lines, and all travel is done by air.
