Getting Started
There are many ways to get your first volucre. You may buy or trade one from an existing member, purchase a semi-custom, or adopt one from the adoption center, also known as the Eyrie! Keep in mind they are not free to make, so your volucre must be official to submit it to the group.
I have a volucre. Now what?
Time to design! Head over to the volucre design guides and make your volucre based on the genotype you were given. Once designed, you can submit your bird to design approvals to be judged for accuracy. While you’re waiting, be sure to go to the falconer design guide and make your falconer, if that part of the game interests you.
Once your volucre and handler are both uploaded to the official account, you can start creating art to participate in activities to earn items, fulfill group prompts to build your characters, and collect XP points to increase your success. It’s very easy to get started!
ARPG Term Glossary
Help! I’m new to ARPGs and I don’t know what these words mean!
Don’t worry! We have prepared a list of words commonly used in ARPGs, not just ours, to help you on your journey!
ARPG: Art role playing game. An online community where the playerbase creates art and literature in order to fulfil prompts, gain points, and obtain items.
Geno: Not to be confused with "genotype," a geno is the full written text that includes instructions on how your volucre will be designed. This includes the base coat, type, size, and genes present.
Genotype: The genetics of your volucre character. This is what determines how your bird will breed and how readily their markings will pass. Paired with the phenotype, each marking has a specific genetic string.
Phenotype: The actual look of your volucre character. Paired with the genotype, each genetic string has a marking attached to it. Often shortened to “pheno.”
Dominant Gene: When a volucre has two copies of the same marking/gene, it is considered dominant. Dominant genes pass more readily and may have visible perks. Often shortened to “Dom.” Please note: this is not how real life genetics works! We know this, but this terminology is easier to understand than real life genetic concepts.
Recessive: When a volucre has one copy of a marking/gene. This is the standard form that markings present themselves. Often shortened to “Rec” or "Res." Please note: this is not how real life genetics works! We know this, but this terminology is easier to understand than real life genetic concepts.
Genobomb: A community term referring to a volucre with an excessive amount of genes.
Mutation: A randomly passing trait that can effect the volucre’s color. Often shortened to “mut.”
Semi-custom: A make your own, or MYO, volucre. These are offered during sales, and they allow a player to decide the genetics and design of their volucre within the limitations set.
RNG: Random number generator. This refers to a computer program that randomly generates results based on a number system, similar to a physical dice roll.
Roller: Term for the program that rolls the result. For example, the “Breeding roller” is the program used to roll breedings.
Slot: A written permission granted by the owner of the volucre to another player, allowing them to breed to said bird.
Import: A standardized template to design your volucre/handler on, hosted in the masterlist account and given a unique number.
Starter: A group owned volucre import.
AR: Art roll. A term referring to a piece of art or literature that was created specifically to fulfil the requirements for an activity and gain loot.
XP: Experience points. Points gained by doing art of your volucre and allow your bird to rank up.
Tiercel: Referred to as the sire in most ARPGs, this is the male parent of a volucre.
Hen: Referred to as the dam in most ARPGs, this is the female parent of a volucre.
